Description
BMW's may be made with performance in mind, but it's always responsible to keep a close eye on the speed limit when driving. Knowing the limit on each stretch of road means you can be sure you're always driving safely, and helps you avoid any speeding fines.
Our Speed Limit Information (SLI) activation makes it easy to be sure of the speed limit when you're on the road. A clear and easy-to-see indicator will be added to your BMW's instrument cluster — right beside the speedometer — showing the speed limit on your current stretch of road. Even if there's no speed limit sign in sight, you'll still know when it's time to slow down, and when you can push the throttle.
This coding upgrade uses only your BMW's factory hardware, both forward-facing cameras for reading roadside speed limit signs and your iDrive system's built-in navigation maps for local speed limit information.
Checking your current location and the speed limit for that road, a small icon appears below your dials showing the maximum speed. In vehicles with a Head-Up Display (HUD), the speed limit will also appear alongside the other information on your windscreen. As you drive from street to street, the speed limit indicator automatically updates.
As the accuracy of the indicator partly depends on how up-to-date your BMW's navigation data is, we always recommend ensuring your maps are updated regularly. You can get the latest BMW navigation map data from BimmerTech.
Please note that this product may not work as reliably in areas where BMW's map data does not include speed limit information. North America and most of Europe are covered, availability in other regions may vary. Please ensure your local maps include speed limit information before purchasing. The shape of the speed limit icon (square for North America, circular for the rest of the world) will match the road signs in your country.
Installation
BMW Speed Limit Information is activated through a remote cable coding session. It is a very simple process that takes no more than 30 minutes. After you complete your order, we send you a coding cable (if you don't have one and add it in the top Option section). Once you receive it, you will be able to schedule a coding session for the time that suits you best. During the session, just plug in the cable, follow the instructions from our technician and Speed Limit Information will be unlocked.
To prepare for your coding session you will need a laptop running Microsoft Windows and a WiFi internet network that you can connect to in your car. A Mac computer running Windows should work too. The coding cable must be plugged into your laptop’s Ethernet port (if you don’t have one, you can use an adapter).
Watch the video to understand the cable activation process better.
The BimmerTech package includes everything necessary for unlocking Speed Limit Information:
- Remote activation service
- Coding interface (if you add it to your order in the top Option section)
A cable coding session can be conducted on all modern PCs and many Mac computers running Windows or MacOS. Find out the requirements for the cable coding session.
