We know, it’s a bit late, but… September has wrapped up and October is here (almost over)! That means it’s time for another Last Month in BMW. We’ll cover some key points of BMW news that happened last month, which in this case was September of 2025. Let’s dive into it and check out what happened in September, on this edition of Last Month in BMW!
This one is a big one! It seems like forever now that we have been talking about the Neue Klasse BMWs coming out: rumors, spy photos, renders, and more. Now, the first one was revealed last month!
The all new (and they really mean that) BMW iX3 is said to have almost 500 miles of range and shares almost nothing in common with past EV models. The technology, design, and even the logo are all new for the seemingly well-named Neue Klasse line.
The exterior, while a big change, still looks BMW, but the interior is going to take some getting used to. We have talked about iDrive X and the Panoramic Vision in previous editions, but seeing it all together with the rest of the interior looks very… Plain.
While a minimalistic approach has been the standard now, especially for EVs, this makes it look like everything else, aside from the steering wheel and center controls. Speaking of which, that’s about all you will find in terms of controls (aside from the door).
Aspects like the climate controls are all digitally controlled and it looks like it’s straight out of a Tesla. With so many complaining about hunting through menus, our BT Perfected brand ended up coming out with some physical buttons to make things in Teslas easier, but now even BMW is taking this route.
Probably the biggest shocker was that the lowest spec model will cost under $55,000. While that is still steep for many of us, that’s rather low for both a BMW and an EV. We’ll have to see how that holds up with competition, especially with Ford pumping $5 BILLION into a new EV platform that will have a starting price of $30,000.

While we’re talking about EVs, let’s cover another one. This time it’s the BMW Motorrad Vision CE or as I like to call it: a moving roll cage. This scooter is designed to be able to allow drivers to not have to wear protective gear while riding.
BMW has been making scooters like this for years, but this one is very minimalistic. While wearing protective gear is cumbersome and hot in the summer, and finding a place to store it is not always ideal, this doesn’t seem adequate.
Let’s face it… Falling off anything with two wheels is not fun and some type of protection is better than nothing, but if you plan on getting one of these, or if you currently ride a scooter, motorcycle, or even a bicycle, please be smart and be careful.

In the past, we have talked about BMW focusing on hydrogen powerplants. Well, the prototypes have been moving along, and I guess they have been moving along well enough to announce that they are coming to the BMW iX5 in 2028.
While rumored for some time now, it seems to be official now. The fuel cell system is a joint effort between Toyota and BMW to help keep costs down and to bring the brains from two major companies together. Toyota is a good brain to have as well, since they pioneered most of the technology that BMW is using.
If you were planning on getting the next-gen BMW iX5, which would you choose? All electric or hydrogen? Let us know in the comments!

Though we used to talk about recalls ALL the time in these Last Month in BMW segments, it’s been a while. So, going back to our roots – here are some recalls!
Just over 1,400 2026 BMW X5 and BMW X7 vehicles are being recalled due to faulty windshield seals that can lead to water leaks. Of course, with modern cars basically being computers with wheels, this means potential electrical issues and even fires (according to BMW).
If that’s not enough, just wait! There’s more! About 196,000 vehicles in the US and about 136,500 in Germany have a defective starter motor that could lead to a fire risk. The cause is similar to the windshield issue… Moisture can cause the start relay to corrode, short circuit, and potentially lead to unwanted consequences.
In the US, it’s a various amount of vehicles made from 2019 to 2022 including some of the 2, 3, 4, and 5 series models, the Supra, Z4, and X3 and X4. In Germany, it’s just about everything made from September of 2015 to September of 2021. Ouch.
To find out if your BMW is affected by any of these, head over to their site and confirm with your VIN. Better safe than sorry!

Last month in the last Last Month in BMW (wow), we talked about a potential joint venture between Mercedes and BMW, with BMW supplying engines to their top German competitor. Well, it’s almost like they got caught at a Coldplay concert, because Mercedes came out denying the whole thing.
Apparently, this is not happening and Mercedes will stick with the Chinese company Geely for their engines.
This really could come down to two things. One, this was just a rumor that happened from someone at one of these companies talking about this as an option… Two, this WAS supposed to happen, but both companies got so much backlash from die-hard fans that it was decided against.
I guess made in China is better!

BMW has been making personal and automotive fragrances for a bit now, and the current lineup pays homage to the M car legacy. The first focuses on 1972, when the BMW M division was founded along with the E9. The second is for the 1985 BMW M3 E30 and the last for today’s M cars, with focus on the BMW M5 G90.
The 1972 one is inspired by “bold citrus blend with sharp lemon and fresh herbs.” The 1985 one is “crisp apple and warm woody amber.” The modern one is “bold pink pepper, mineral clarity, and refined woods.”
They come in 50 ml and 100 ml bottles, and sell for about $76 and $100 respectively. It looks like they will go on sale in October, so we might talk about them again next Last Month in BMW and reference this month which will be last month next month!

A while back, the European Union put their foot down to ban internal combustion engine sales in respect to new vehicles in 2035. Well… As time went on, they said they would review that. Time has indeed gone on and they are pushing to review that even sooner.
Obviously across the globe where these mandates are happening or said to happen, there has been backlash. Some people simply don’t want EVs, power grids are not ready yet, and reporting is coming out shedding light on how detrimental lithium mining and waste can be to the environment, that last part directly counteracting what EVs were designed to do: protect the environment.
What could happen is an agreement to allow plugin hybrids, range extenders, and engines running on carbon-neutral fuels.
Automotive makers claim a 2035 deadline is impractical, citing infrastructure not being ready, imminent job loss, and unhappy customers. BMW is confident, even going so far as to say ICE and combustion will never disappear. Time will tell!

Let’s end with something a bit more lighthearted. While it might be just a ploy to encourage people to buy EVs, the BMW iX3 coming to the US in 2027 is supposed to be highly customizable. This includes something that hasn’t really been popular since the 70s: a green interior!
Of course we’re not talking about green from head to toe, but at least some green accented seats and other trim. While BMW hasn’t released any details, there are some pictures of a seat floating around, and if that's what’s going in, it certainly matches that “puke green” the 70s were known for!
Your writer owns a 1971 Ford Torino 500 and the interior was that puke green once-upon-a-time, but someone took some black colored vinyl spray paint to the inside long ago and I can’t say I disagree with that decision!
