Front View Camera Retrofit

The BMW front view camera retrofit overrides the screen when it’s activated by holding the MENU button on the iDrive controller.

The BMW front view camera kit is ideal for drivers looking for a flexible park assist solution that leaves room for customizing and expanding your vehicle’s features. This kit includes a Multimedia Interface (MMI), a BimmerTech original module that makes it easy to add a rear view camera and/or mirroring device (SmartView HD Flex).

In order to add front view camera to BMW, you need to have about 3+ hours available. During the DIY front view camera installation, you will have to route the extension cable from the front bumper to the head unit where the MMI will be installed. After doing that, it’s necessary to mount the bracket with the camera, and for that you may have to take off the front bumper. In some cases you will also need to cut/drill small holes in the mesh grill to fit in the camera.

In order to install the MMI, you will need to remove the trim that covers the head unit and pull it out to connect the multimedia module. Please note that to link the camera cable with the MMI, it will be necessary to tap the camera wires into the MMI wire harness. The MMI can be mounted above or under the head unit, if there is enough space, or in the glove box compartment.
