BMW Gesture Control Retrofit

Want to control your iDrive system the easiest way possible? With BMW gesture control, it only takes a few simple gestures to use the most vital functions of your iDrive system. Just raise your hand up and let the magic happen. 

The BMW gesture control retrofit based on 3D technology will help you safely interact with the iDrive system while remaining focused on the road. Making simple moves captured by a 3D camera, you can accept or decline a phone call, turn up or down the audio volume, set navigation destinations, change the angle in the 360-degree vehicle view and more.

Here’s a set of all predefined gestures you can use:

• Accepting a Call / Confirming pop-up: Point one finger towards the iDrive screen and pull it back
• Rejecting a Call / Closing pop-up: Swipe your hand to the right 
• Turning up the volume: Circle your finger clockwise 
• Turning down the volume: Rotate your finger counter-clockwise 
• Skip back: Move extended thumbs to the left
• Skip forward: Move extended thumbs to the right
• 2 configurable gestures: Extend index and middle fingers, or extend 5 fingers, form a fist and extend 5 fingers again
• Changing the 360-degree Rear View Camera angle: Pinch and drag to the left or right. NOTE: Your BMW has to be equipped with a Rear View Camera to include this option.

Sensors located in the roof lining of the car will translate these hand gestures, as long as you gesticulate properly in front of the center console, above the gearshift lever.

The BMW gesture control is originally an element of BMW Live Cockpit Professional (SA 6U3), but if your late-model G-Series car is equipped with this option and does not include the gesture control feature, we can retrofit it for you .

The process itself consists of 2 main steps:

1. Fully plug & play installation (takes up to 1h)
2. Coding (after the installation is finished, it is necessary to schedule a remote coding session with a BimmerTech technician)

The installation will require replacing the overhead console and adding 2 wires from the overhead console to a module in the passenger footwell area.

The kit includes all parts necessary for a complete installation:

• Sunroof module with a camera (S6U3A)
• Wiring harness

If you do not have a coding interface cable, you will need to purchase one for your coding session.

The installation is 100% reversible. No permanent modifications to the interior/exterior of your car are needed. The installation instructions appear in the personal account within 72 hours after the purchased product is shipped. They are created and customized for each specific model.
