Description
It doesn’t matter which device you want to use for streaming music through your car stereo system — you should be able to connect either the latest-generation iPhone or an old Walkman. And our USB/AUX Interface retrofit will help you plug in almost any device that has audio files to play.
The AUX port has a 3.5 mm socket which means that you can attach any audio source with a headphone jack to your BMW’s head unit. Though to integrate an Apple iPod or Apple iPhone, the BMW Y cable adapter for Apple iPod/iPhone is required.
The USB port in its turn can ensure the best audio playback quality when it comes to streaming music from an external device through the car’s stereo system.
In both cases the title of the track being played is displayed either on the control or the radio display. You can operate MP3 players and smartphones directly from the central console.
All common formats are supported (MP3, AAC, WAV and WMA) as well as playlists in M3U format.
If you have neither of the ports or only one of them, it is worth upgrading to the 6FL USB/AUX Interface. It allows you to be flexible with audio devices you want to connect.
Installation
How to put an AUX port in your car together with the USB port? The process itself consists of 2 main steps:
- Fully plug & play installation (takes up to 1h)
- Coding (after the installation is finished, it is necessary to schedule a remote coding session with a BimmerTech technician)
The installation depends on the vehicle specification. In most cases it is limited to replacing a module in the trunk + adding a PnP harness. However, in some cases a few more wires will need to be installed throughout the whole length of the car from the trunk to the center console and microphone.
The kit includes all parts necessary for a complete installation:
- Plate with USB and AUX ports
- ULF2HI module
- Wiring harness
You will also need a coding cable if you do not already have one. You can add it at the top of the page.
This retrofit is absolutely lease-friendly. The installation doesn’t require any permanent modifications to the exterior or interior of your car.
